Plainview student killed in one-car accident Tuesday; funeral services set
PLAINVIEW, TX (KCBD) - Funeral services are set for a Hale County teenager killed in a rollover accident Tuesday evening. DPS reports that Sonia Villarreal, 17, died when she rolled her minivan outside of Plainview around 5 p.m.
Villarreal was a senior at Plainview High School. Investigators say she was the only person in the van when she lost control and flipped the vehicle. They say she was not wearing a seatbelt and was ejected. Authorities pronounced her dead at the scene.
A Sonic Drive-in manager in Plainview says Villarreal worked at the 5th street location and was scheduled to work the night shift Tuesday.
Her mother remembers the last moments she shared with her daughter.
"Mom I'm going to work ill be back in a little while, and that was the last time I saw her," Raquel Villarreal said.
"My husband kept telling her don't go down those dirt roads - they should not go down the dirt roads," said Raquel. "Those roads are dangerous and he told her that everyday."
Villarreals friends and family remember her for having a big personality.
"My daughter was a very happy cheerful girl that talked to anybody," her mother said.
"She was great and she made you laugh," said a family friend. "If you were having a problem and she was having a problem, your problem came before hers."
Her father, Casimiro Villarreal, says every day he would wake up and looks out the living room window to see if his daughter was home.
"This morning I got up to look and see if her van was there, and it was not there," said her father. "And its not going be there, I just want her back."
Sonia's brother says he is still trying to come to grips with losing a sister.
"I don't want to believe it, it just feels like she is at a power lift meeting in Corpus Christie and she'll be back at the end of the week, but its not true, she's not coming back," her brother cried.
Villarreal was going to graduate high school in May. She was in the high school band and involved in power lifting.
A rosary was set for 7 p.m. Wednesday at Lemons Funeral Home in Plainview. There was also a candlelight vigil at Kidsville Park in Plainview later that night.
Funeral services are set for 1 p.m. Friday at Our Lady of Guadalupe Church in Plainview.
