Posted: Updated:

LUBBOCK, TX (KCBD) - A local pilot took his final flight Thursday afternoon after 44 years in the aviation industry. Rick Peters, Director of Aviation for United Supermarkets, took this last flight for United Supermarkets, which added to his 10,000 hours of flight time.

Peters was also responsible for numerous administrative duties and aircraft maintenance and upkeep. He says once you get involved with United you cannot leave. "This is a purpose-driven company," he said.

Peters spent 16 years with United. He retired two years ago, but stayed with the company filling in as their third pilot.

The Lubbock Fire Department saluted Peters on his final flight with a water archway at Lubbock Aero.
