LUBBOCK, TX (KCBD) – Lubbock County Commissioners will take up a possible burn ban next week. The newest Drought Monitor map shows that Lubbock is not in drought. But the local office of National Weather Service says that's misleading when it comes to judging fire danger.
Lubbock has received 26.46 inches of rain for 2010, and that is 7.93 inches above normal. But our last meaningful rainfall was back in October. Firefighters have battled numerous grass fires across the South Plains in the past month.
Meanwhile, Lubbock is one of the few counties on the South Plains not currently under a burn, ban but that might change Monday after the County Commissioners meeting.
