New developments after Willis' sudden departure from TTU football

By James Clark | email

LUBBOCK, TX (KCBD) – Texas Tech's first-year defensive coordinator is suddenly gone from the team, and there were new developments Monday.

Willis will not coach the Red Raiders defense in the New Year's day Ticketcity Bowl game.

Texas Tech head coach Tommy Tuberville says in a written statement that Willis is leaving to pursue other interests and he wishes Willis well.

According to the news-press.com in Fort Myers, Florida, there is speculation that James Willis is headed to the University of Florida.  Other media outlets including ESPN have tied Willis' sudden departure to his talks with Florida.

Also on Monday, Wolfforth police released the copy of a police report from last week, which shows that a woman claimed she was the victim of domestic abuse.  We've learned from sources that the address of that incident is the same as where Willis was known to live.

No one was arrested and Willis is not named, at least not on the blacked out copy that we received from police.

KCBD NewsChannel 11 is trying to get a phone number where we can offer Willis a chance to comment.
