LUBBOCK, TX (KCBD) - Texas Tech Head Football Coach Tommy Tuberville says a report of domestic violence was not a factor in the departure of Defensive Coordinator James Willis from the team.

Tuberville said Tuesday, after a practice session for the Ticketcity Bowl,  "That was never even discussed when we sat down and talked about his future."  Tuberville also said, "He will work through those and everybody has some kind of problems. They seem to be when you read stuff, more serious than what they are, but he is a good guy and has a good family."

On Sunday afternoon, Texas Tech announced Willis was leaving after one year to pursue other career opportunities.

On Monday, it became public knowledge that Wolfforth Police were called last week to a residence where Willis was known to live.  Police were responding to a complaint of domestic violence but Willis was not named in the blacked-out version of the police report which was released by Wolfforth Police.

There were no serious injuries and no arrests.
