Consider This: Drink. Drive. Go to jail

Posted: Updated:

LUBBOCK, TX (KCBD) – Drink. Drive. Go to jail. That's the simple but effective message that the Texas department of transportation has for all Texans. And it's one that we should not ignore.

Texas leads the nation in drunk driving crashes and fatalities and unfortunately we will see more this new year's weekend. You and your loved ones do not have to become a statistic if you'll stop and make one simple choice. If you drink, don't drive.

Consider this:

Besides the safety of others on the road, there are serious criminal implications for drinking and driving. Did you know on your first offense alone you could go to jail for six months? And did you know you don't even have to be legally drunk to be arrested for DWI. It's true.

This weekend law enforcement will be out in full force arresting drunk drivers.  And there's is a full proof way to avoid being one of them. Don't drink and drive. Make the choice to be safe this New Years.

Call a cab or a loved one or have a designated driver.
