Problems blow in with the wind, landfill closing early

By James Clark - email

LUBBOCK, TX (KCBD) - High winds are creating problems on the South Plains.  At about 10:45 Thursday morning there was thick white smoke along Highway 84 near Snyder due to a grass fire.  Lubbock and surrounding areas were under a wind advisory starting Thursday morning and continuing until 6:00 PM.

In the afternoon the city of Lubbock issued the following statement

High winds are forcing the West Texas Region Disposal Facility located near Abernathy to close at 2 p.m. today.  The landfill is scheduled to be open for normal business tomorrow, Friday, December 31st from 7 a.m. – 5 p.m.  The landfill will be closed on January 1st for the New Year holiday.
