LUBBOCK, TX (KCBD) -
LUBBOCK, TX (KCBD) - Thursday, Lubbock's homelessness committee met to figure out how to address the issue. Members brought up several different topics, including how law enforcement deals with the homeless population.
"Perhaps we can recommend to the law enforcement agencies of this community that we have an easier method for diversion so that homeless people do not have to be dealt with with tickets and warrants, and they can actually receive medication, housing, job training, that would be a better solution to the problem," Ysidro Gutierrez said.
Members also discussed the resources already available to those in need. "People don't really realize how much is going on in Lubbock, and what we do have available for people that have found themselves in a difficult situation," Mary Guetersloh said.
Committee members say they'll continue to identify other support services in Lubbock. They also hope to have a public forum in the future.
