LUBBOCK, Texas – Tommy Tuberville's 2011 football recruiting class has begun to take shape as four future Red Raiders began their Texas Tech careers earlier today by enrolling for the spring semester.
Quarterback Michael Brewer, linebacker Blake Dees, athlete Ronnie Daniels and wide receiver Marcus Kennard have begun classes and will get an early start as all four will be eligible to take part in spring practice.
"We have signed four very strong student-athletes and are excited to have them join us here in the spring," said Tuberville. "Anytime you have someone that can graduate high school or junior college ahead of schedule, you know you are getting a well-rounded student-athlete who has a strong commitment. Each of these players bring unique abilities to our team and all four have great speed which continues to be our focus as we build our football team."
Marcus Kennard, Wide Receiver, Lawton, Okla. (Butler Community College)
A four-star prospect by Rivals.com … one of the top junior college wide receivers in the country with an excellent vertical leap … led the Butler County Grizzlies this season with 45 receptions and 893 receiving yards … averaged 74.4 yards per-game and 19.8 yards per-catch … piled up 13 touchdown receptions and led the team in scoring with 80 points … as a first-team All-Jayhawk Conference selection … originally signed with Kansas State out of Lawton High School (Lawton, Okla.) before enrolling at Butler County … as a senior at Lawton High School, he led the Oklahoma Class 6A Division with 12 touchdown catches.
Michael Brewer, Quarterback, Lake Travis (Lake Travis)
A three-star prospect by Rivals.com and ranked as the No. 43 best player (12th ranked dual-threat quarterback) in Texas … a dual-threat quarterback with good speed and an excellent arm …. was part of four consecutive state championship teams at Lake Travis High School… as a senior he threw for 2,865 yards despite missing games due to an injury … averaged 220 yards-per-game and tossed 26 touchdown passes … as a junior the threw for 4,437 yards along with 41 touchdown passes … a dual-threat player, he rushed for 593 yards as a junior and 743 yards his senior season.
Blake Dees, Linebacker, Spanish Fort, Alabama (Spanish Fort)
A three-start linebacker (Rivals.com) from Spanish Fort High School in Spanish Fort, Alabama … No. 39 prospect in the state of Alabama … selected to the Alabama-Mississippi All-Star game … helped lead his high school to its first state championship with a win over Briarwood Christian … in the championship game, he led the defense with seven tackles.
Ronnie Daniels, Athlete, Albuquerque, N.M. (La Cueva)
Three-start prospect by both Scout and Rivals … ranked as the fourth best player in the state of New Mexico by Rivals … named the Offensive Player of the Year by PrepNewMexico.com … owns the New Mexico state records for career touchdowns and career rushing yards.
