Food for Thought 1/13/11

Posted: Updated:

LUBBOCK, TX (KCBD) – In this week's Food For Thought, we begin the list as many of you begin your day, with a cup of coffee. With their drive-thru service, Daybreak Coffee Roasters at 3334 66th serves an express java with perfection.

We find the perfect recipe for freshness at our next stop. The Subway at 2515 82nd had a perfect score. And finally, if you're looking to do some cooking of your own - the bakery, deli, grocery, produce and meat markets were all flawless at the Wal-Mart Super Center at 702 W. Loop 289.

Now to this week's only low performer.

Health inspectors cited Nora's Mexican Food Restaurant at 4102 34th with five critical violations.

* Beans and carne guided were above 41 degrees.

* Rice was not at least 135 degrees.

* A hand sink was being used for more than just hand washing.

* Toxic items were near food.

* A can opener was dirty.

Nora's owner tells us the refrigerator was not cooling properly and parts were over-nighted immediately following their inspection and fixed the next day. The report shows all violations were corrected at the time of the inspection.
