For the first time this year, two Texans have died from the West Nile virus. The Texas Department of Health reports that an 85-year-old woman from Ellis County died July 27th, and a 68-year-old man from Montgomery County died July 20th.
Right now Lubbock leads the state in the number of human West Nile cases. Last year 213 counties reported cases, leading to 13 human deaths. Now, more than halfway through the year, only 49 Texas counties are reporting cases.
West Nile is a mosquito borne illness.
