John Ellis Gidding Source: LSOLUBBOCK, TX (KCBD) - The Lubbock County Sheriff's Office reports the victim in Thursday's assault in west Lubbock County has died. Authorities say Russell McKinney, 31 died just before 5:00 p.m. Friday at University Medical Center.
A co-worker found McKinney unconscious inside his home near Erskine Street and F.M. 179 Thursday morning. Investigators say he had been beaten with a pipe.
Thursday night, authorities arrested Allen Lee Boling, 48 and John Ellis Gidding, 48. Both men are from Lubbock and are charged with Burglary of a Habitation with Intent to Commit another Felony and Aggravated Assault with Serious Bodily Injury.
The charges could be upgraded to Capital Murder, according to authorities. That decision will be left to a Lubbock County Grand Jury. Investigators believe the motive stemmed from an allegation naming McKinney's involvement in another crime.
