After two years of continuous construction, the City of Lubbock drainage system is now operational.
Lubbock's $36 million dollar project ceremoniously came on line with a ribbon cutting at Elmore Park Monday morning.
Back in June of 1999, some residents in South Lubbock found themselves underwater after an above average rainfall. Now, the new storm water drainage system connects 11 playa lakes in the south central area of Lubbock. It will direct overflow from the lakes to a discharge point near the water reclamation plant.
