LUBBOCK, TX (KCBD) – Public education could lose billions in state funding as lawmakers take on a massive deficit with the promise of no new taxes.
Lubbock ISD says the current house proposal would equal a loss of up to 27-million for them. Superintendent Karin Garza says the district has been in a cost cutting mode since 2005, but this proposal would change everything. "If we experience something as significant as what's projected right now, there would be probably no area or no aspect of our organization that would not be effected."
Superintendent Garza also points out that this is a preliminary bill, and that a final version could be very different.
