LUBBOCK, TX (KCBD) - Police arrested a Lubbock ISD teacher Monday morning.  Police say they were able to make "controlled purchases" of marijuana from Christopher Russell Howard, 38, at his residence in the 2600 block of 26th Street more than once in the last month.

Police have not revealed if the purchases were made with an undercover officer or an informant.  Captain Greg Stevens says officers seized 234 grams of marijuana from Howard's home in one container.  Stevens says officers seized another 60 grams of marijuana from a second container.

Stevens says officers also found evidence that Howard was cultivating the marijuana in his home.  Police describe it as hydroponic marijuana which is more potent than marijuana that is grown in a yard or a field.

Officers also seized a small amount of cash, and called CPS to consider what to do with Howard's children.  At last check Howard was held in the city's detention center and not yet moved to the Lubbock County Jail.

Lubbock ISD released a statement Monday afternoon:   "Chris Howard has been employed by the district as a science teacher since 2009. He has not been on an LISD campus today. Our procedure is to put any employee who is the subject of a criminal investigation on administrative leave during the course of the investigation."
