Lubbock Celebrates National Night Out

Lubbock neighborhoods gathered to stand in unity against crime and drugs. It was the 20th anniversary of National Night Out.

Always outspoken, and never shy, Councilman TJ Patterson praising the significance of National Night Out. "You do it because it brings neighbors and neighborhoods together. When they come together things change," says Patterson.

Communities from all 50 states participated in this evening's National Night Out events. In all, the National Association of Town Watch estimates that 33 million Americans participated. That's about 1/8 the entire population of the U.S.

    Thousands are without power in West Lubbock Monday morning after an incident at a power substation overnight.  Just after 2:00 Friday morning there was a fire at a substation at 11th and Milwaukee Avenue. A transformer blew at 4th and Slide Avenue, and there are reports of possibly another incident at 4th Street and Upland.  Power lines were down at Milwaukee Avenue and the northbound lanes were blocked off from 19th street to 4th street.
