The Lubbock City Council came another step closer to increasing the city's sales tax on Wednesday. The plan would lower property taxes and fund economic development for the city of Lubbock.

In the second reading, Council members again voted unanimously for the proposition, which confirms now that the final decision is up to the voting public. "I support this proposition," said Councilman Tom Martin. "And I hope every homeowner in the City of Lubbock turns out to vote for it."
If approved by voters, sales taxes would be increased by 3/8 of a cent, effective in October of 2004.
Election day is Tuesday, November 4th.
