Food for Thought 1/27/11

LUBBOCK, TX (KCBD) –In this week's Food For Thought, Estrella's Mexican Restaurant at 1905 50th will celebrate their one year anniversary this weekend. They've had two surprise health inspections since they opened, and both were perfect.

"We try really hard to always be a top performer, and (I'm) very excited," owner Simona Media says. "We try to keep everything organized, and we work as a team; that helps a lot too."

The family-run restaurant is named in honor of Simona's oldest daughter. Simona says their made-fresh daily, authentic Mexican food mixed with a flare of Tex-Mex sets them apart from other restaurants. They also serve caldo and menudo everyday.

Simona says, while she keeps everyone in order, she owes her perfect score to Patricia and Nita, "My sister and her sister-in-law. She's the one that cooks. They're the ones that make everything."

Next we head to another top performer. Moose Magoo's at 8217 University. This hub city hot spot cooks up another perfect score.

And we wrap up this week's Food for Thought list with a little spice. Taco Villa at 7110 Quaker tops the list for the fifth time.
