Local Dentists lend a helping hand

LUBBOCK, TX (KCBD) -

LUBBOCK, TX (KCBD) - Early Saturday morning doctors at Abbeville Dentistry saw more than one hundred patients all free of charge as a part of the Dentistry from the Heart.

"We are providing fillings and extraction to the patients that just can't afford dental treatment or may not have any dental insurance," said Dr. Britt Bostick. The doctors treated the first one hundred patients along with a few lucky others who waited in a line that wrapped around the building. Patients were so anxious they waited in line overnight to make sure they received the free dental treatment.

Some patients were in so much pain they told KCBD they hadn't eaten in days. Before deciding on a treatment, the doctors put patients through a staging process to check their blood pressure to make sure they were healthy enough for the procedures. Patients received either extractions or fillings.

"We're looking for a way to give back to our community and for us, dentistry was our way," explained Dr. Bostick.  The national non-profit organization, Dentistry From the Heart, helped to improve the lives of more than one hundred Lubbock residents.
