LUBBOCK, TX (KCBD) – A Lubbock family is lucky to be alive Sunday evening after a suspected drunk driver slammed into their home. Police say 27-year-old Mario Olivas lost control of his car around 4:15 Sunday morning and crashed into a house on 7th Drive and Iola.
The loud noise sent neighbors running into their front yards to see what was going on." I saw my two neighbors across the street. They were trying to convince him not to leave the scene. His car was in the house. I've had two people hit my house before and try to hit and run. And I didn't want him to do the same thing, says neighbor Kimberly Bouldin.
Kimberly Bouldin says her neighbor was out of town and would not have survived the crash had he been home, because he would have been sleeping right where the car stopped.
Blaze Preseley, who was helping the family pick up the pieces after the accident, has a message for those who drink and drive. "You know when it's drunk driver, it's never good. Because some people could have got hurt like really bad, so it's never good to drink."
Police say Olivas was arrested at the scene and taken to jail on DWI charges. Online records indicate that Olivas was able to post bond to get out of jail.
