LUBBOCK (KCBD)– Texas Tech center fielder Barrett Barnes was picked the No. 32 player in the country by College Baseball Daily on their projected Top 100 Players Preseason list.
College Baseball Daily had four Big 12 Conference players listed among its top 40, with Texas' Taylor Jungmann (No. 6), Texas A&M's John Stilson (No. 24) and Kansas State's Nick Martini (No. 29) joining Barnes.
After becoming just the fourth Red Raider to earn Big 12 Freshman of the Year in 2010, Barnes went on to receive four Freshman All-America accolades, including first team honors by Baseball America and PING!.
He led Tech in seven statistical categories, including batting (.341), runs (71), home runs (14), total bases (139), slugging percentage (.641), walks (40), on-base percentage (.465) and tied for the team lead with 74 base hits.
In fact, Barnes became the first Texas Tech freshman in school history to lead the team in batting while he became the first Red Raider freshman to lead the team in homers since 1974.
Barnes was also selected All-Big 12 second team as he ranked in seven top-10 conference statistical categories while leading all Big 12 freshmen in batting average, slugging percentage, runs and doubles.
Barnes and the Red Raiders open their 2011 season hosting Western Michigan on Opening Day, Feb. 18, at 6 p.m. at Dan Law Field.
