LUBBOCK, TX (KCBD) - It's official; a Lubbock man set a new state record while fishing at Lake Alan Henry.  DNA testing shows that the fish caught by Erik Atkins of Lubbock is a Spotted Bass, and, at 5.62-pounds, that breaks the previous record of 5.56 pounds set at Lake O' the Pines in 1966.

According to Texas Parks & Wildlife, Atkins caught the fish during a tournament on January 15th.  TPWD says its 22.75 inches in length and 15 inches in girth

TPWD says Atkins will be honored in June and presented with a fiberglass replica of the fish.  Unfortunately the fish died shortly after a January 24th statement in which TPWD said it was waiting for DNA results to see if Atkins had broke the state record.
