LUBBOCK (KCBD) – Texas Tech sophomore center fielder Barrett Barnes and junior outfielder Scott LeJeune were named to the College Baseball Daily Preseason All-Big 12 Team, the web site announced Monday.
Barnes was tabbed as one of the three outfielders while LeJeune, who was Tech's designated hitter the past two seasons, was honored as the league's top preseason DH.
Texas Tech was one of six teams in the league that had a player represented on the team, while Oklahoma, Texas, Oklahoma State, Kansas State and Baylor were the other Big 12 team represented.
Barnes was recently named to Baseball America's top prospect list as the No. 48 collegiate sophomore in the nation while CBD named Barnes as the projected No. 32 player in the country.
Barnes, the Big 12 Freshman of the Year in 2010, had a breakthrough campaign last season batting .341 with 14 home runs and 53 RBI. He scored 71 runs, hit 19 doubles and two triples while collecting a team-high 22 multi-hit games.
LeJeune returns for his third season as a Red Raider after hitting .323 with four home runs and a team-leading 58 RBI last season. He led the Big 12 with 28 doubles – the most in the league since 2004 – which placed him seventh nationally.
LeJeune is a .325 career hitter (138-for-425) in 110 games played at Texas Tech. He has hit 42 career doubles (tied for ninth in Tech history) with 95 RBI and a .485 slugging percentage and .375 on-base percentage during his career.
The web site placed Tech seventh in its preseason Big 12 poll, as Oklahoma was the preseason favorite followed by Texas, Texas A&M, Baylor, Kansas State and Nebraska with Kansas, Missouri and Oklahoma State rounding out the preseason poll.
