Garza County authorities arrest five people on drug charges

LUBBOCK, TX (KCBD) – Garza County authorities arrested five people on multiple drug charges. Garza county Sheriff's deputies confiscated more than five pounds of marijuana and more than six grams of crack cocaine. The sheriff's office says all the illegal narcotics were all packaged for distribution. Deputies discovered the drugs during a traffic stop on Wednesday.

"We've always been very proactive in our enforcement of the ongoing battle against illicit narcotics in our county, but starting the first of this year, we've implemented a new program where we're utilizing modern technology so that if you come through our county, we're going to catch you." says Bruce Flournoy who is a Garza Co. Sheriff's Deputy. Garza County law enforcement will be presenting the case to the district attorney to file formal charges.

The Garza County Sheriff's Department has always been proactive in its enforcement in the ongoing battle against illegal narcotics and the people that traffic those narcotics.  At the beginning of 2011 the Garza County Drug Enforcement teams began applying new technologies to aid in the enforcement of illegal narcotics shipments through Garza County.  It has always been a priority for Sheriff cliff Laws and his officer to stem the flow of theses illicit narcotics into Garza County and Post, TX to ensure the citizens and especially the youth of Garza County live in a safe and potentially drug free environment. On February 9, 2011 Deputies with the Garza County Sheriff's Department initiated a vehicle stop and utilized theses technologies resulting in the seizure of an illegal drug shipment. Nettle in the seizure were over 5 lbs of packaged marijuana and over 6grams of crack cocaine package for distribution

The enforcement action resulted in the arrest of five individuals leading to seven Felony charges and $275, 000 in accumulated bonds.  All cases will be referred to the Garza County District's Attorney's Office for prosecution.
