Video of Lamesa explosion to be shown on national TV

LAMESA, TX (KCBD) - A May 2009 tank explosion, first shown on KCBD NewsChannel 11, will once again play on national TV.  The producers of an MSNBC program called "Caught On Camera" were in Lamesa Friday to record interviews.

KCBD NewsChannel 11 Storm Chaser David Drummond video-taped a tank battery fire after a night of storms.  And what seemed like an ordinary fire which was started by lightning suddenly become something much more when his camera recorded the images and sounds of the tank battery exploding. 

Firefighters could be seen scrambling for cover and then debris from the explosion hit Drummond's storm chasing vehicle.  It caused considerable damage, and for Drummond it was a close call as he was near the vehicle when it was struck. 

"It was a blessing in disguise," Drummond says.  He was able to sell the video to news outlets all over country. 

The "Caught On Camera" producers interviewed Lamesa firefighters as well as Drummond.  "They had me doing some recreations; driving down the road, setting up the camera."

Officials in Lamesa were told that the show will air in the summer of 2011 but no specific date was given.
