LUBBOCK, TX (KCBD) - Court records late Tuesday afternoon identified the suspect in a nearly-fatal hit and run as Christopher Thomas, 28.  Police were called in the early morning hours of January 28th to 19th & Crickets Avenue for a report of a hit & run at about 2:00 AM.

Police say Cerka was crossing 19th and Crickets when Thomas turned onto 19th from Buddy Holly, and hit him.  Police found the victim of the hit & run, Ashton Cerka, 20, with severe body trauma.

Cerka remained hospitalized Tuesday and had improved from critical condition to serious condition.  Lubbock police said that time that they learned a possible suspect might be in Ropesville.  Police in that town helped LPD get into contact with a suspect.

Thomas is charged with Failure To Stop & Render Aid.

According to friends of the family, an Ashton Cerka fund has been set up to accept donations through American State Bank
