Fire destroys a Lubbock South Overton home overnight

By James Clark - email

LUBBOCK, TX (KCBD) - Fire destroyed a home in Lubbock's South Overton neighborhood early Friday morning.  At about 1:30 AM a police officer noticed smoke coming from the house in the 1900 block of 15th Street, and called for assistance from the Fire Department.

The fire quickly got out of hand and firefighters retreated from the house for their own safety.  By 2:00 AM part of the roof and one outside wall began to collapse.  Officials say it was an empty house, and they describe the damage as a "total loss."  There were no reports of injuries.

While officials have not yet said what caused the fire, neighbors told a KCBD NewsChannel 11 photojournalist that there have been other fires in the neighborhood and they are concerned.
