New lighting system to make U.S. Hwy 87 safer - KCBD NewsChannel 11 Lubbock

New lighting system to make U.S. Hwy 87 safer

LUBBOCK, TX (KCBD) –  New measures to make the intersection at Woodrow Road and U.S. 87 safer will be activated this Tuesday. TX Dot says the traffic signals will not run off a timing system, but a vehicle detection system. This is designed to eliminate unnecessary waiting.

The intersection has been plagued by multiple crashes. Safety specialists say drivers on Highway 87 will have a green light until traffic is detected on Woodrow. Since U.S. 87 traffic is at a higher rate, drivers will flash yellow light that will caution them to start slowing down and stopping. As always, until the new lighting system is working, TX Dot urges drives to continue to drive cautiously through this intersection.
