From Texas Tech Athletic Department:

LUBBOCK, Texas – Ashley Brokeshoulder earned her second win in as many days, leading No. 21 Texas Tech to an 8-2 victory over Utah Valley Friday afternoon to conclude the second day of the Texas Tech Invitational at Rocky Johnson Field.

After topping Bryant, 10-2, earlier in the day, the Red Raiders left little to doubt early on as Cydney Allen scored Emily Bledsoe on an RBI single to center field to give Tech an early 1-0 lead it would never relinquish.

Raven Richardson got things started for Tech in the second, tripling down to left field. She would later score off a Kermitria Ward ground out to third. Stephanie Drewry kept things going for Tech later in the inning, knocking a single to center field to score Mikey Kenney and McKenzie Clemmons as part of a three-run inning for the Red Raiders.

Brokehshoulder (4-0) was dominant from there, not allowing a hit over the first three innings before Deianna Russell hit a two-out double for the Wolverines in the fourth. Russell later scored in the inning off a delayed steal attempt by Samantha Telarroja that allowed Russell to score from third before the tag for the final out was made.

After Clemmons and Ward lead off the fourth inning with a single and walk, respectively, Mikey Kenney jump-started a three-run inning for the Red Raiders, sending a double to right field that scored Clemmons. Ward eventually scored off an Allen fielder's choice. Logan Hall drove in Tech's final run in the inning with an RBI single to center field.

The Red Raiders came close to ending the game in five innings, loading up the bases in the bottom half of the inning, but Drewry's grounder to third was fielded by Korryn Coates for the final out.

Brokeshoulder earned the win after five innings pitched where she allowed only three hits and one run. Karli Merlich threw the final two innings for Tech, giving up a run off three hits.

Despite earning the win earlier in the day against Bryant, Josi Summers (1-4) could not pick up her second win of the day, earning the loss after going only 1.2 innings while allowing four runs.

Tech concludes the weekend with one final doubleheader on Sunday as the Red Raiders face Bryant beginning at 10 a.m. and Utah Valley immediately following.

GAME NOTES

 ·         The win guaranteed the Red Raiders the Texas Tech Invitational title after beginning the weekend with a 4-0 record. Utah Valley and Bryant are both 1-3 on the weekend.

 ·         Prior to Utah Valley's run in the fourth inning, Ashley Brokeshoulder had gone 12-straight innings to start the year without giving up a run. The junior leads Tech with four wins thus far.

 ·         Despite not getting the start in the day's first game, Stephanie Drewry extended her hit streak to seven games after a 1-for-4 day at the plate. Drewry's lone hit came off a two-run single in the second inning.

 ·         Logan Hall and Raven Richardson both extended hit streaks in the game as Hall is now up to six games and Richardson has moved to five-straight. The duo had a hit a piece.

 ·         Kermitria Ward finished 2-for-3 at the plate with a run scored and an RBI. The speedy freshman got the start in right field for the second-straight day. She will likely spend most of Sunday in the circle.

 ·         Randi Tongate earned her first start of the season at catcher. She finished 1-for-1 at the plate with a walk.

 ·         The Tech pitching staff only allowed seven total hits and three runs over 12 total innings on Saturday. Kelsey Dennis threw a one-hit complete game as part of a 10-2 win over Bryant in the earlier game.

 ·         Emily Bledsoe recovered from a rough first game, where she had numerous line drives go straight to fielders, to go 1-for-2 with two run scored against Utah Valley.
