LUBBOCK, TX (KCBD) - Five people are now headed to prison for what federal authorities describe as a Lubbock-area smurfing conspiracy. Smurfing is the collection of small, legal amounts of Pseudo-ephedrine into larger illegal amounts. Officials say drug dealers use the Pseudo-ephedrine to make Meth-amphetamines.
The man singled out in court records as the ring-leader, Gary Alan Jones, gets 188 months which is just less than 16 years. Danny Jack Allen, and Lonnie Ray Warren also get 188 months.
Kelly Joann Spruiell gets 125 months, which is almost 10 and-a-half years. Shannon Ailene Nolan gets 108 months, which is nine years in prison. This coming week Dee Je Estep will be sentenced in the same case, in Lubbock federal court.
