Talk of 4-way stop is set to go Wednesday

By James Clark - email

LUBBOCK, TX (KCBD) - County Commissioners will hold a public hearing this week on a possible 4-way stop at South University Avenue and Woodrow Road.

Since 2006 the Texas DPS reports ten crashes at that intersection.  An engineering survey shows that traffic on both roads is about equal so Commissioners thing a set of 4-way stops would reduce the back-up on University Avenue.

The meeting is Wednesday evening, 6:30, in the Lubbock Cooper ISD Administration Building, 16302 Loop 493. This is the same hearing that was put off in early February due to severe weather.

Crews are on the scene of a fire at 24th Street and Avenue U.  Scanner traffic indicates this is possibly a vacant, single-story home. We're also hearing emergency crews received several calls from people nearby who are worried the fire could spread to their homes. There is heavy damage to the outside of the building. The Fire Marshal has been called to the scene.  KCBD has a crew on the scene and we will continue to update this story as we receive more information. ...
