While the first day of school appears to have been a success for the Lubbock Independent School District, not everything went according to plan.
The flashing yellow lights located at each of the 20 mile per hour school zones were not functioning properly on Monday morning. According to City of Lubbock Traffic Engineer, Jere Hart, each signal receives a weekly page programming it with the week's school schedule.
Two brand new school zones had been tested individually weeks ago and passed, but Monday morning that was not the case. "When you page an individual school, it worked fine. But when you sent the page to all of them at once, there was a problem," said Hart. "We believe we have that all corrected now."
The glitch continued Monday afternoon at a few schools, however Hart says they expect to have the timing issues worked out by Tuesday morning.
