According to the City of Lubbock Health Department, the elderly man died last week in a Lubbock hospital. He apparently suffered from many health problems, but encephalitis brought on by the West Nile virus was a contributing factor in his death.
Currently there are 23 confirmed cases of the West Nile virus in Lubbock.
Earlier this week, James Clemmons died while hospitalized with the West Nile virus. However, the official cause of his death has not yet been determined.
Mosquito spraying continues through out the city, with every inch of Lubbock covered every six days.
