Winds take part of the roof off Lubbock apartment complex

By James Clark - email

LUBBOCK, TX (KCBD) - One person suffered minor injuries late Sunday afternoon when a portion of the roof at Villa Del Norte Apartments blew off in the wind.  Officials say the outer layer of a 30-by-30 foot section tore away from the roof at 1913 Baylor Street.

Officials did not know if anyone would be homeless early Sunday evening because the Fire Department was waiting on word from city of Lubbock building inspectors on whether the building was safe to occupy.  The Fire Department believes two or three units might be impacted.

At the time of the incident, winds in Lubbock were blowing at 39 miles per hour with gusts up to 52.
