LUBBOCK, TX (KCBD) - County Commissioners on Monday agreed to put up a portion of the money needed to widen Slide Road from 1,000 feet south of 1585 to 200 feet north of 98th Street. Lubbock County will pay 10% of the cost of "right of way."
In other words the state will have to pay property owners to take land for the widening of the road. Lubbock County expects to pay $12,993 as part of the Slide Road improvements.
"If you travel that road, you realize it desperately needs four lanes," says County Commissioner Bill McCay.
Actually, it will be better than four lanes; three lanes in each direction plus a turning lane in the middle. The project is being done in partnership with TxDOT and other members of Lubbock's Metropolitan Planning Organization. The MPO hopes to have construction money in hand by 2014.
