Lubbock is known for having one of the largest cemetery's in the state and Monday that resting place is being recognized by the Texas Historical Commission.
In a dedication ceremony on Monday, the city cemetery was recognized as an Historic Texas Cemetery. The ceremony was held at the entrance of the cemetery, which is located in East Lubbock. After the unveiling of an historic marker, the South Plains Genealogy Society offered tours to guests in attendance.
There are more than 60,000 graves at the Lubbock Cemetery dating back to 1892.
