Bizarre Truck Explosion Kills One

A bizarre truck fire overnight kills one Lubbock man and leaves police and fire officials searching for answers. A fireman at station seven heard screams coming from the parking lot of Big Lots on 4th St. just before midnight. He then noticed a pickup truck on fire. Firefighters rushed to the scene and put out the flames only to find a dead body in the truck's cab.

The body was burned beyond recognition but preliminary autopsy reports indicate he did die from the fire, not before the fire broke out. "We're waiting on dental record to identify the body. Those should be in overnight so hopefully we'll have identification," said Lt. Victor Quintana of the Lubbock Police Department.

Police and fire investigators are still working to close this case. The registered owner of the truck has been notified of the fire, but no name will be released until the body is positively identified. The death is not being investigated as a homicide at this time.
