LUBBOCK, TX (KCBD) - The National Weather Service measured 21 hundredths of an inch of rain Friday night (as of 10:53 PM) in Lubbock. The rain is welcome news.
Parts of Lubbock County are considered to be in moderate drought while others are considered to be "abnormally dry" according to the most recent Drought Monitor from the USDA, NOAA and other federal agencies.
The NWS web site's Lubbock page said Friday, "The region has only averaged about 20 percent of normal rainfall from late October through the first few days of March."
Prior to Friday night Lubbock had officially received less than half an inch of precipitation for 2011. Just before midnight Friday, selected West Texas Mesonet rain totals were as follows:
