City selling 7 more homes along sinking 98th Street

By James Clark - email

LUBBOCK, TX (KCBD) - The City of Lubbock is willing to sell seven houses for just pennies on the dollar, but just like the last such sale, there is a catch.

The city bought more than 20 homes along 98th street in Southwest Lubbock and condemned them.  A sewer project back in the 1990's is blamed for sinking dirt which now threatens the safety of the homes.  The city has set aside nearly $8 million to fix the problem, which includes re-paving the ruined portions of 98th street between Slide & Quaker.

The city is now willing to sell the homes on the condition that the new owner move or demolish them.  The new owner is entitled to any scrap material from demolition.  Either way the owner gets the house, and the city keeps the land.  The newest list of homes up for sale is as follows:

9801 Belmont Ave
9802 Belmont Ave
9802 Clinton Ave
9802 Chicago Ave
9801 Homestead Ave
9802 Homestead Ave
9801 Grover Ave
