Idalou wins State Hoop Title

AUSTIN, TX (KCBD) –Three months after winning the 2A State Football Championship, Idalou added a 2A Boys State Basketball Title as the Wildcats beat Tatum 55 to 54 Saturday in Austin.

The first half was as even as it could be, tied at 10 after 1 and Idalou leading by 1 25-24 at the half.

After leading by 2 after 3, Idalou opened it up in the 4th behind RIley Payne, who led the Wildcats with 22. Bradley Adkins scored 11 and Luke Buckner put in 10.

Idalou becomes just the 6th school in UIL History regardless of class to win a football and basketball title in the same school year.

The other 5 schools that have accomplished the rare double title dip  in the same school year are Dumas 1961-62, Southlake-Carroll 1992-93, Duncanville 1998-99, Everman 2002-03, Cayuga 2009-10

Idalou made it to the 2A hoop title game last year but lost. The time they sealed the deal finishing the season 33-1 with 30 straight wins to close out a wonderful season.

Last Monday, the football team received their state title rings at a ceremony at Idalou. Now they'll hold another ceremony in the future.

Later tonight, Paducah plays #1 Bronte for the 1A Division 2 hoop title. The 3rd ranked Dragons last won a state boys basketball championship 23 years ago in 1988 when former Red Raider WIll Flemmons led them to the title.
