PLAINVIEW,TX (KCBD) - Tense moments on the mound after Wayland Baptist pitcher Mikey Nabarrette was hit by a line drive during a game Friday. Nabarrette was on the mound for Wayland against Oklahoma Christian University when he got hit. EMS crews rushed the freshman pitcher to Covenant in Plainview.
Doctors there determined Naberrette needed emergency brain surgery. An ambulance brought the Odessa native to Covenant Hospital in Lubbock. Rhane Jeffress, sports information director for Wayland, says doctors are cautiously optimistic.
Michelle Stephens with Covenant says Nabarrette is listed in good condition. Jeffress says that Nabarrette was up watching T.V. just hours after his surgery.
