No Cell Phone Ban In Texas

During the 78th Legislative Session, Representative Paul Moreno of El Paso, Representative Jose Menendez of San Antonio and Representative Helen Giddings of De Soto, each proposed a bill banning the use of cell phones in vehicles. But, none of those proposed cell phone bans were passed in the 78th Legislative Session.

On Monday NewsChannel 11 spoke with the office of Representative Jose Menendez. They say an erroneous e-mail helped spread incorrect information that a bill banning cell phones had been passed. Menendez's office has not found the source of that e-mail, but says that the Police Chief in Uvalde received a fax with that incorrect information from the Department of Public Safety.
