LUBBOCK, TX (KCBD) - I agree with local and area school administrators that a proposed four day school week is a bad idea.
Representative Ryan Guillen of Rio Grande city filed House Bill 1326 this month. It would allow schools a four day option in exchange for longer school days.
I believe that one of the top priorities of our state government is to ensure good quality education for our children. Extending the school day to reduce the number of weekdays takes that objective in the opposite direction.
I haven't heard of one educational benefit to this plan, only that it would save money. Well, if your going to cut spending, find another place other than my child's education.
Not to mention the kids that would inevitably be left home alone while parents are away at work on Fridays.
House bill 1326 should stay on the shelf in Austin and out of our local classrooms.
