Lubbock creates new jobs, lower unemployment TX report says

LUBBOCK, TX (KCBD) - Lubbock's unemployment rate is down 3-tenths of a point comparing February to January as reported Friday by the Texas Workforce Commission.  The rate went down from 6.4% to 6.1% (not seasonally adjusted).

The estimated number of people in the Lubbock metropolitan statistical area in January was 136,700.  In February it went up to 137,300 for an estimated net increase of 600 new jobs.

Lubbock has the 3rd lowest unemployment rate in Texas behind Amarillo and Midland.  The Texas unemployment rate is 8.2% and the U.S. unemployment rate is 8.9% (or 9.5% if not seasonally adjusted).  Texas created 22,700 non-agricultural jobs between January and February.  The state created more than a quarter million net new jobs in one year.
