Twenty-eight year-old Sonja Childers, a former Wolfforth bus driver who admitted to having sex with a 12-year-old boy will be going to trial on Tuesday. She is charged with aggravated sexual assault.
A capital murder trial begins on Tuesday as well. Last August, 21-year-old Texas Tech student Colin Schafer was shot to death at an ATM machine on 50th and Slide. Gabriel Gonzales is serving 60 years in prison for shooting Schafer to death. Now, his cousin Joe Gonzales is going to trial for capital murder. Police believe he drove the getaway car in this crime.
Lead prosecutor Matt Powell says they will not seek the death penalty in this case. Prosecutors didn't pursue the death penalty in Gabriel Gonzales's trial, because Gonzales was 16-years-old at the time of the crime, making him ineligible.
Both of these trials get underway at 9 a.m. NewsChannel 11 will bring you the details of these trials as they unfold in the courthouse.
