With motorcycle accidents on the raise, some being fatal and some leaving riders with serious injuries have brought a new non-profit organization to the Hub City to help raise awareness and money for those impacted by motorcycle accident.
The Fallen Riders Memorial Fund that helps families that are impacted by the loss of a loved one in motorcycle accident. The origins of the charity are in Ohio, and Lubbock with the first city in the state of Texas that organization has rooted its chapter.
On Sunday, the group held a biker appreciation day to introduce their mission to the community. "When a motorcyclist is killed in Lubbock, we serve 9 counties, we will be able to step up and help their families" says Chelsea Holloway who is a representative of the organization.
To help boost awareness, Mayor Tom Martin will sign a proclamation declaring the month of May as Motorcycle Safety and Awareness month in Lubbock.
