Dry conditions and high winds on Sunday contributed to multiple large fires in the KCBD NewsChannel 11 viewing area including one in Garza County.  Fires burned through the night in Garza County but there indications from both DPS and from eyewitness accounts overnight that the fires were either contained or nearly contained.

At about 3:00 AM officials opened Highway 84 between Post and Justiceburg, which had been closed due to fire and smoke.

The fire stretched nearly 3 miles long Sunday evening and was threatening as many as two dozen homes.  Campers near Lake Alan Henry were asked to leave overnight just as a precaution.

In a completely separate fire near Denver City a trailer park was evacuated as a precaution.

Another large fire forced the evacuation of the Ruidoso Downs Racetrack and Casino and surrounding areas.  At least four homes burned in the general area of Ruidoso, New Mexico.  As of Monday morning that fire was still burning.

There was also a fire north of the Texas border in Guymon, Oklahoma Sunday evening.
