Two organizations raise money for child abuse awareness

Posted: Updated:

In a joint effort to help two nonprofit organizations on the South Plains Saturday evening, the Empty Bowls Project is at Home Café to help raise money and awareness to help fight hunger and child abuse on the South Plains.

"We're really trying to help fight hunger in the South Plains with doing this event. It's an international thing that started with some high school students and has grown to just amazing proportions," says Von Venheizen.

With April being child abuse awareness month, the Guardians of the Children motorcycle club hopes people on the South Plains will help them fight child abuse.

"Any time we hear of abuse and neglect, we like to react, so depending on what that family or that child needs, we like to be there to support," said chapter member Chris White.

Organizers say the turnout was great and hope it becomes an annual event.
