On Tuesday, The Lubbock ISD School Board will meet to consider consolidating different schools throughout the district. Consolidations the board is considering include the following:
During the meeting, the board will also consider attendance boundaries for the changes to the districts. Many parents expressed concern about the proposed changes at a meeting earlier this month.
Superintendent Dr. Karin Garza knows the closures will be emotional for many families, but says fewer resources make it necessary.
"It's come to the point we either consolidate schools or we have to cut people, in my estimation," Garza said.
The plans to consolidate schools could save the district $5.4 million by the 2012-13 school year. Cuts in Austin may reduce LISD's budget by as much as $20 million.
