Autism Awareness walk a huge success

Texas Tech's Burkhart Center for Autism Education and Research had the largest turn out in 6- years on Sunday for their annual Autism Walk to Raise Awareness.

Organizers estimate nearly 3,000 people came out to take a stroll around the field at Jones At&T Stadium. "Most of the teams put together by family and friends who have a loved one affected by autism. They do it as a way to bond together and also see a lighter side of autism I think sometimes people focus" says David Richman of the Burkhart Center.

The event was free, but the center is accepting donations for a new facility for its transition academy helps young adults with autism transition from the home environment to a life with more independence.
